School Trips & Offsite Learning

Offsite learning is vital, enabling students to apply skills in real-world situations beyond the classroom as part of the curriculum.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Coombe House, some of the most important learning takes place beyond the classroom.

We believe that learning is most powerful when it can be applied in authentic, real-world situations. Whilst classroom learning remains important, pupils also need opportunities to practise their knowledge, skills and understanding in the wider community.

Offsite learning is therefore not an extra, it is an important part of our curriculum.

Bringing Learning to Life

Being able to apply learning beyond school helps pupils develop confidence, independence and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Whether visiting a museum, using public transport, participating in outdoor learning, visiting local businesses or engaging with community organisations, pupils are able to test, practise and strengthen skills in meaningful contexts.

Learning becomes real.

Developing Confidence and Independence

For many pupils, offsite learning creates opportunities to achieve things they previously thought were beyond their reach. These experiences help young people:

  • Try new things
  • Take positive risks
  • Develop confidence
  • Build relationships
  • Improve communication skills
  • Increase independence
  • Develop resilience

Often the most significant learning is not what was originally planned and it emerges naturally through real experiences, real people and real situations.

Opportunity Matters

Many of our pupils have experienced periods of education where opportunities have become increasingly limited.

Some may have missed trips, activities, performances or wider school experiences because of the challenges they were facing at the time.

At Coombe House, we believe every young person deserves opportunities to grow, participate and succeed.

Through careful planning, strong relationships and personalised support, we work hard to create experiences that help pupils discover what they are capable of.

Ambition in Action

Offsite learning is not a break from learning and it is not a reward.

It is often where some of the most ambitious learning takes place.

Through authentic experiences, pupils develop the confidence, skills and self-belief needed to engage successfully in their communities and move towards successful adulthood.

Ultimately, our aim is simple, to help young people see themselves as capable, valued and worthy of opportunity.
