Careers

Careers education helps students explore options, understand themselves, and make informed future decisions through a Gatsby-aligned programme.

Preparing for Future Possibilities

Careers education at Coombe House is about much more than employment.

It is about helping young people understand themselves, explore possibilities and make informed decisions about their future.

Through a careers programme aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks, pupils are supported to develop the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to navigate the opportunities and choices that lie ahead.

Discovering Strengths and Interests

Every young person is different. A key part of careers education is helping pupils understand:

  • What they enjoy
  • What they are good at
  • What motivates them
  • What opportunities exist
  • What pathways may help them achieve their goals

By better understanding themselves, pupils are able to make increasingly informed choices about future education, training and employment.

Bringing Aspirations to Life

Young people often arrive with ambitions and interests that can act as powerful motivators for learning.

Whether a pupil is interested in mechanics, animals, construction, hospitality, creative industries or something entirely different, we seek to use those interests to develop broader skills, experiences and aspirations.

The goal is not simply to identify a job.

The goal is to help young people build the knowledge, experiences, confidence and transferable skills that support future success.

Meaningful Experiences

Careers education includes opportunities to encounter employers, explore workplaces, understand different industries and learn from people with a wide range of experiences.

These opportunities help pupils connect classroom learning with future possibilities and better understand the pathways available to them.

Successful Transitions

For us, careers education is closely linked to preparation for adulthood.

A successful careers programme does not always end with employment.

It may lead to college, training, supported internships, further education or employment.

What matters is that young people are equipped to make informed decisions and transition successfully into the next stage of their lives.

Looking Forward with Confidence

We want every young person to leave Coombe House believing that they have a future worth striving for.

Above all, we want pupils and families to feel optimistic about the opportunities ahead and confident that ambitious and fulfilling futures remain possible.
