School Community

“Community is much more than belonging to something; it’s about doing something together that makes belonging matter.”
– Brian Solis

Local community and charity work is beneficial for all pupils at Coome House School for several reasons:

  • Enhances Learning: Engaging with local charities and communities provides pupils with real-world experiences that can enhance their learning and understanding of social issues.
  • Promotes Social Responsibility: Participation in community service projects teaches pupils the importance of giving back and making a positive impact on the local and wider community.
  • Fosters Empathy and Teamwork: Working with charities and communities to help pupils develop empathy, teamwork, and social responsibility skills.
  • Builds Community Bonds: Collaborating with local charities strengthens the bond between schools and the community, creating a supportive infrastructure for all.

Examples this Year

The Rotary Shoe Box appeal is a charitable initiative that sends gifts to children and families in need. Each class filled a shoe box with gifts, which were sent with the aim of spreading a little happiness to disadvantaged children and adults in Eastern Europe.

For Comic Relief 2026 pupils across the school dressed ‘Red to Toe’ to raise money to support children and families in the UK and abroad.

Coombe House Farm Produce: This year, we have donated £417.06 to The Blandford Animal Sanctuary from our farm produce sales since opening the shack!

Democracy

Two of our classes, Kites and Puffins, have been voting on which charity to donate the money from the excess farm produce to.

Staff suggested some charities and each person in Kites and Puffins had two votes each. The charity with the most votes was Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital.
